The Inclusive was inspired by Spotlight Development Inc. President and Founder Sherry Larjani. The project is dedicated to the memory of her late father who was known for his outstanding generosity and concern for others in his community.
Sherry, who had worked as an architect and a developer helping create many people's dream homes, often felt ill at ease that housing had become a luxury that not everyone could afford.
Sherry dreamed of a community where housing was affordable, where people from all different backgrounds were able to come together, united in their desire to create adequate housing for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Sherry began to share this dream with her colleagues in the building industry, and began making connections with like-minded individuals and organizations that were aiming at empowering lower-income and marginalized communities by helping them enter the housing market.
Soon, this shared dream began to seem possible as experts and advocates in the real estate industry began collaborating on ideas and sharing their experience. From this collaboration the name The Inclusive was born.
The Inclusive began to be championed by the non-profit groups that believed in it including Habitat for Humanity GTA + Waterloo, WoodGreen Community Services, Trillium Housing, BlackNorth Initiative, Good Shepherd Non-Profit Homes, and Brands for Canada. Each of these groups shared with Sherry the challenges that the communities they represented were facing.
The Inclusive began as a dream, but as demand roared for affordable housing Sherry realized that The Inclusive needed to be more than just a dream. Sherry's company created a non-profit arm Spotlight Affordable Ventures, and began to purchase land where this utopia could be built.
Since then, The Inclusive has acquired two sites through Spotlight Affordable Ventures. One at Black Creek and Lawrence in Toronto, and another at Courtland Ave E and Block Line Road in Kitchener.
We hope that The Inclusive will continue to be supported by those who believe in the values that inspired it, and that the successful completion of these affordable housing communities can stand as a blue-print; one possible solution to the affordability crisis.
The Inclusive is an idea that is ever growing and expanding. If you are interested in joining our team on this journey please send us an email at info@theinclusivecondo.com.
